Description
This week’s “Process Indicators Definition” could be a controversial one.
By definition, a performance indicator or key performance indicator (KPI) is a type of performance measurement. KPIs evaluate the success of an organization or of a particular activity (such as projects, programs, products, and other initiatives) in which it engages.
(additional resource at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Performance_indicator)
The controversy comes from the act of defining indicators to understand what is going on. Indicators are never perfect, they are a fragment, an expression of reality. Every indicator promotes a group of behaviors. Assure you define first the behavior and only then the indicators to leverage them.
