Here is your weekly dose of Human Management with some more food for thought to leverage your growth.

Since we believe the Management Bugs are common and typical, every description is created and adapted from articles, blog posts, and definitions from other sources and authors.

A MngtBug is a problem, cause, or impact in a human manager’s decision, which produces an incorrect or unexpected result. Every other week we share a little bit of our knowledge base on social media and our newsletter. This week’s MngtBug is…

By definition, motivation is the process of stimulating people to actions to accomplish their goals. (1)

Motivation is why a person acts or behaves in a particular way. In the world of business and management, motivation has a specific meaning. It is all about the factors that encourage individuals to be continually committed and interested in their jobs. (2)

Demotivation happens when employees have lost their inspiration or will to take action. This lack of interest and enthusiasm for work can have disastrous consequences for an organization. A demotivated employee can experience a lack of motivation temporarily or, in the worst cases, permanently.

The consequences of low employee motivation are as numerous as the number of causes. And of course, organizations are the first to pay the price of employees’ disengagement. It’s important to keep in mind that a lack of motivation can be contagious. Sometimes, all you need is one demotivated employee to lead the pack and affect the team.

Low levels of employee motivation have seven main consequences:
1. Endangers economic stability
2. Lower business performance
3. Lower individual productivity
4. Dissatisfied clientele
5. Poor work quality
6. Poor work atmosphere
7. Demotivated teams

Demotivation is a real obstacle to building efficient work relationships that are productive and constructive. Moreover, it can initiate a dangerous vicious circle that negatively impacts overall business performance and work quality. (3)
